All-inclusive retreat in Costa Rica

The hotel grounds are quite cozy. Louis, who built his eco-hotel and restaurant in the 80s, strategically replanted as much as possible rather than clearing his lots. This retains the sense that you’re in the jungle — because you are! Giant mango trees shade the parking area, a favorite of the monkeys which hang out on the property regularly, and these Central American multi-colored squirrels. An iguana family lives on the premises and occasionally a coati mundi will stroll through. Since ALL other hoteliers in town completely cleared their lots to build their hotels, this is literally the only hotel in town where you can hang out with the monkeys, not to mention find any decent shade. These howler monkeys have a bit of a twisted sense of humor though; be warned about standing below them! But they are still very very cool animals and it’s quite spectacular to watch a troop bouncing through the treetops, babies clutching onto their mamas as they swing through the branches, lead males howling their presence — remarkably loudly. You will be amazed, because they are amazing.

The hotel also has a full spa. Xinia is trained in USA as esthetician and massage therapist. She offers a variety of massage techniques, incorporates reflexology, and gives a lovely facial. Her services are not included in the retreat price.

Additional healing services may include reiki or other forms of energy healing.

We’ve selected Playa Grande’s only beachfront hotel for your pleasure during your stay here with us. It’s a boutique hotel with creative and unique designs. Woodwork, tilework, architecture, every room is different and every sleep space is different. Each piece of furniture is handmade from tropical hardwood, and the bathrooms are always a design surprise. Most rooms have about 4 beds, and some rooms have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The AC works great in all rooms and the wifi is strong throughout the grounds. We will reserve rooms as needed based on bookings, always selecting the most desirable room available at the time of booking. A couple of the rooms involve stairs, so do let us know if this is an issue for you and we will get you something on the ground floor.

It’s true that not all of the beds or even rooms are equally desirable. Some beds are kings while others are twins, and some are bunkbeds with a double-sized mattress on the bottom. We do not want to get into the weeds of charging different rates for the different rooms and beds, so our solution is to simply draw from a hat upon arrival. We also toy with the idea of switching up beds midweek or even possibly more often so everyone feels like their experience is fair. It’s not a big deal — we call in housekeeping and you move your suitcase.

Our Costa Rica retreat is so all-inclusive, we even provide artisan

soap and sunscreen!

The last thing we need when planning a trip is worrying about forgetting something crucial — like sunscreen or lotion when you’re headed to the tropics. Not only do you have to remember it, but you also have to deal with putting some into a small container for airport security. We want to make this trip as hassle-free as we can for you. So, we’re going to take care of these things for you. We’ll have some health-friendly sunscreens in various SPFs and some zinc oxide-based sunscreen — made locally with Costa Rican cacao — for those high-noon surf sessions. We’ve got your skin covered!

Handmade artisan soap is a luxury and not easy to find in all places, especially in cities and shops that tend to stock corporate products. If you are fortunate enough to locate small-batch handmade artisan soap, it’s got to be wildly expensive. We’ve got plenty of coconuts in this tropical paradise, which means plenty of coconut oil. We partner with a local woman who uses this coconut oil as a base for her all-natural soap. It is divine! She makes it for us in fun shapes to make even bathing more fun. We see this as a win-win: you get fabulous artisan hand-crafted all-natural soap, one less thing to think about while packing for your all-inclusive Costa Rica vacation, and we all get to support local artisans and local families. This is one way we can help contribute to the local community and support the local Costa Rican people, our gracious hosts.

To complete the skincare regimen, we also provide coconut oil for dry skin and hair. Coconut oil solidifies at about 78F, so it’s always liquid here. It hydrates dry skin and hair beautifully with all-natural nourishment. And since we’re talking about hair, if you want to go home with some sun streaks in yours, we can probably find you some limes to squeeze through it before you get into the salt water. The hotel has a lime tree, so we can see if it has any fruit. You will go home looking tropically sun-kissed in every way! With a look that will last long after your tanlines fade.

We mean it when we say “all-inclusive”!

Costa Rica Entry Requirements

FAQs

Yes!! We cover lodging, all food and drink, soap and sunscreen, airport transfers, and all activities and necessary equipment. The martial arts Power-Ups are an add-on, and once purchased, we cover costs of instruction and gear.

We don’t care! As long as you can move reasonably, you’re neither too big nor too old. Everyone deserves to learn more about happiness and live a happier life! When we say “all-inclusive retreat Costa Rica”, we’re not talking only about money. We’re also talking about including all different kinds of people. If the activities are too hard for you because of some physical limitations, we will make accommodations for you, don’t worry! We are a Costa Rica all-inclusive retreat in every way.

We do NOT cover costs of airfare, travel insurance, COVID tests or transportation other than airport transfers and surfing. We do NOT cover items ordered directly from the hotel’s restaurant, hotel spa services, or private lessons or treatments. We do NOT cover food on the free day (except leftovers), alcohol, or coffee (we serve green & herbal tea and juices).

You are an adult. We provide a healthy balanced food plan for your best health and of course would love if you could stay on board with us the entire time. But there are also restaurants in the area. If you want something other than what we provide, you are welcome to purchase whatever you want, of course!

No. Alcohol is not provided in this retreat. At the same time, we are housed at Hotel Las Tortugas which has a full bar. Nevertheless, we strongly discourage alcohol consumption for both individual (it’s harmful to health) and group (intoxicated people are not fun to be around) reasons. Don’t forget we have a free day in the schedule for you to do as you like.

Okay. You’re an adult. We’re not going to force anything. There are a lot of fun, empowering, and healing activities here in our program, and your participation is highly encouraged. If you take full advantage of our offerings, you will reap the greatest rewards. If you don’t want to surf, we hope you boogie board!

Not usually (depending on Matt Brown’s availability). We want everyone to feel maximally comfortable in every possible way. We tend to keep things separate because it’s easier and because this is about self-care.
